Dear colleagues,

In this issue of the Greek e-journal of Perioperative Medicine for 2018 there is a wide coverage of interest in scientific articles.

The review article of Passakiotou M describes the safety and policy concerning the public health consequences of the massive arrival of migrants from various parts of the world, which puts the national health systems under pressure. The article emphasizes in public health interventions and intersectoral and international collaboration in order the arrived migrants and refugees to receive a more systematic health-reception which also will protect the public health of host countries.

The article of Theodoraki K et al describes the current evidence regarding fluid management in obstetric anesthesia. The appropriate timing for fluid administration, the most appropriate fluid volume as well as the type of fluid that should be administered in obstetric anesthesia are some of the issues discussed in this review article.

Next, the clinical study of Margaritis A et al wants to determine how low and moderate levels of PEEP affect right ventricular structure and function. Their results show that after applying ΡΕΕΡ=5cmH2O there is no significant change noted in the overall structure and function of right heart, while after applying ΡΕΕΡ=10cmH2O the changes in the structure and function of right ventricle were caused mainly by the reduction of preload  and less by the augmentation of afterload.

Giannopoulos A et al present the first study in Greece that aims to describe the factors that affecting prehospital care by Emergency Medical Services. In this prospective 5 month survey study, 13 EMTs recorded data (45 variables) about 1450 cases; 1010 of which were included in their analysis.

Final article of Karakosta P et al presents a case report of central venous catheter malposition. In this article there is also a short review of the literature.
